My Editing Process

Send in a portion of your manuscript for a sample edit. If you like my feedback, we can move forward! If you are unsure about what you need, I can help guide you in the right direction.

Every manuscript is different, and so are its editing needs. I want the best result for you and your manuscript, and together we can come up with an editing plan and timeline that makes sense for you!

Editorial Assessment – Big Picture Evaluation

An editorial assessment is useful in the early stages of editing. It identifies the strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript and considers your target audience. I focus on the “big picture” of your manuscript, including plot, structure, characterization and pacing.

Once the assessment is complete, I’ll provide you with a detailed report of my unbiased feedback. This gives you a clear understanding of what’s working and where adjustments may be needed before moving on to the next phase of editing.

Developmental Editing – Story, Structure, and Pacing

A developmental edit takes a deeper dive into plot, structure, characterization, and pacing on a chapter-by-chapter level.

With this type of edit, I use Microsoft Word, comments and track changes to identify plot holes, inconsistencies, and areas of your story that may need further development. You’ll recieve thoughtful feedback and practical suggestions to help strengthen your manuscript while preserving your unique voice and vision.

Copy Editing – Language, Clarity, and Consistency

A copy edit is a line-by-line or sentence level edit focusing on language, clarity, prose, and sentence structure. I use a style sheet to ensure grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage are consistent throughout the manuscript.

I use Microsoft Word, comments, and track changes to provide detailed feedback on areas that may need improvement and questions that need attention before the next stage of editing.

Proofreading – Final Errors and Polish

Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process where I carefully review your manuscript for any lingering errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.

I use Microsoft Word, track changes to identify and correct any remaining errors. Because questions and queries have already been addressed during the copy-editing stage, I can make the necessary corrections without sending them back to you for additional approval.

I’m here to be your fresh set of eyes and help bring you one step closer to publication.
